Introduction

Through this report you will be learning more about the skeletal system. The bones in the skeletal system are the cranium, clavicle, sternum, humerus, ribs, spine, ulna, radius, pelvis, femur, patella, tibia, fibula.

Major structures

The most major structure in the skeletal system is the rib cage. Though debatable the rib cage makes up a very large part of the body. The longest bone in the body is the femur which creates a lot of red blood cells.

System functions

The systems main function would be to protect the organs and provide mobility. If we did not have bones we would not even survive birth, the reasons are: the brain would not have a place to stay, and the internal organs would be in the wrong position.

Disorders/diseases

The three main disorders/diseases are osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and arthritis. Osteoporosis is a disorder where the bones get extremely weak and threaten to break at any moment. Osteoarthritis is when the cartilage breaks down and the bones rub together. Arthritis is the inflammation of one or more joints.

Staying healthy

The most important thing to do to stay healthy is to exercise and eat healthy foods like steak and plenty of fruits. Food with a high calcium level are suggested. Physical activities like soccer and football will help the bones remain strong.

Other interesting information

The skull actually has water in it that the brain sits in. Bones are a bit flexible and porous like a sponge. The skeletal system is a storehouse for minerals.

Conclusion

This has been my report on the skeletal system. Through this report I intended to teach you about the skeletal system. I very much hope that you have enjoyed this report as much as I have.
