Introduction

Hello! I'm Jake and I will be telling you about the circulatory system. This system involves a lot
of blood, but don't freak out. Its not THAT gross. Its actually pretty interesting! Lets talk about it!

Major Organs

The heart, of course, is a very big (important) organ with the circulatory system.

System Functions

Your heart works with your lungs. Your arteries pump blood away from your heart, carrying oxygen-rich blood to your body tissues. This is the cycle of how the blood works/moves in the
circulatory system: Blood starts in your left atrium. The blood then moves to your left ventricle, which moves the blood to your aorta, which carries the oxygenated blood ALL
throughout your body in arteries. The blood travels through your arteries, to the capillaries, and then to your veins. Your veins then carry the de-oxygenated blood to
your right atrium. your right atrium pumps the blood to your right ventricle, and your right ventricle gives the blood to your pulmonary arteries, which pumps
de-oxygenated blood to your lungs, and your lungs give oxygen to your blood, and that blood is taken to the pulmonary veins, and the process is repeated over
and over again in just a matter of seconds. Your circulatory syste also works with the other systems by giving them oxygen. For example, when you excersize,
your heart pumps faster so your muscles get more oxygen. When you eat, your stomach and intestines get more blood than usual as opposed to when you're not eating.

Diseases

Coronary, or heart disease can come in several different forms, such as heart failure, heart attacks, and heart valve disease.
Symptoms of these are the following: Cough, fatigue, loss of appetite, irregular pulse, shortness of breath, needing to urinate
at night, swollen feet or ankles, swollen liver or abdomen, waking up due to shortness of breath, weight gain, and chest pain.

Interesting Facts

  • Your heart is roughly about the size of your fist if you're a kid. If you're an adult, than its the size of 2 fists!
  • Your heart beats about 62-100 times a day,100,000 times a day, 35,000,000 times a year, and 2.5 BILLION times in a average lifetime!
  • If you squeeze a tennis ball with quite a bit of force, than thats how hard your heart works to pump blood!
  • The human heart pumps about 1,000,000 barrels of blood in the average lifetime!
  • During heart transplants, doctors put artificial hearts into your body so you don't die during the transplant.
  • If an adult's blood vessels were lined out end-to-end,they would stretch over 62,500 miles!

Staying Healthy

One great way to keep your circulatory system healthy is to quit smoking.
Smoking can significantly increase your risk of getting a heart
attack. Chemicals in tobacco can lead to heart attack. But if you quit smoking,
your risk of getting a heart attack goes down! You can also excersize and eat healthy to
keep your circulatory system healthy.

Conclusion

So, to end this bit on the circulatory system, there is one main organ, the heart. Your circulatory system works in a repeated cycle,
and works with all of your other systems. heart disease is one disease in the circulatory system. When you're a kid, your heart is about the size of your fist.
when your an adult, your heart is about the size of two fists. One way to keep your circulatory system healthy is to eat good foods.
Remember, without your circulatory system, you would'nt have oxygen to breathe.
I hope you enjoyed this presentation on the circulatory system! Bye!
